Over the weekend, we got to witness the NBA All-Star festivities. Friday night with the celebrity game featuring comedian Kevin Hart stealing the show with his hilarious antics throughout the whole game. Then the rising stars game with Kyrie Irving dominating the game and receiving the MVP. On Saturday the events featured the skills competition, 3-Point Contest and the Slam Dunk Contest. The skills competition was filled with star point guards and was won by Spurs guard Tony Parker. The 3-Point Contest also had its big names including Kevin Durant, but was one by fellow all-star Kevin Love. Finally the Slam Dunk Contest, the participants where, Derrick Williams of the Minnesota Timberwolves, Chase Budinger of the Houston Rocket, Jeremy Evans of the Utah Jazz, and Paul George of the Indiana Pacers. This is where the problem occurs. Many people who do no watch the NBA frequently and only follow the highlights on sportscenter will not even know who any of these players are. Where are the stars of the league who consistently have top 10 dunks during the season? Why can't the participants be LeBron James, Blake Griffin, Kevin Durant, and Dwight Howard? Now that would be a show. The NBA needs to figure out a way to convince these guys to perform in this for it to have the same craziness as it used too. With that being said, congratulations goes out too Jeremy Evans for winning the slam dunk contest, and his creative 2-ball dunk.

Take on Jeremy Lin
After Sunday's win against the Mavericks, the New York Knicks improved to 6-1 with overnight sensation Jeremy Lin running the point. The win also moved the Knicks to .500 for the first time since the early parts of the season. Ironically, all of this is going on without their superstar Carmelo Anthony. Many people think that, with the way Lin plays, Melo will not be able to fit in and the team will regain their losing ways when he comes back. My opinion on that is Melo is very willing to adjust his game as long as they are winning and he gets the last shot at the end of the game. Lin took the game winner against Toronto a few nights ago but will not mind letting Melo get his shot, he is an unselfish guy and really admires Melo's ability. The Knicks, with Melo and now J.R Smith are quickly becoming dark horses in the eastern conference as they continue to climb in the standings. My feeling is that the Knicks will get to the eastern conference finals and eventually lose to the Miami Heat, if they can avoid them before that round.

Intramural Team BallsoHard
On Monday February 13, 2012 my intramural team called BallsoHard, played a men's competitive basketball game against a team called "Banger." The game was close throughout but "Banger" held the lead for most of the contest. Late in the second half they extended the lead to 13 points and the game in most people's eyes was all but over. However, with about one minute left in the game BallsoHard took actually took a lead on a three pointer. Down three with just about 30 seconds left team "Banger" attempted a very good look and tied the game. On the last possession of the game BallsoHard could not score and the game ended in a tie. Both teams were very disappointed an overtime was not the deciding factor as a tie in basketball is almost unheard of.
